Asher-Hess Contest - Young Investigator Award


Asher-Hess Contest takes place yearly at the Meeting of the Swiss Physiological Society.

Criteria for Asher-Hess Contest attribution

 

Abstract content:

  • The abstract should be understandable for non-specialists.
  • General physiological relevance of the work should be emphasized.
  • Methods should be discussed in no more details than needed only to provide relevant information for the understanding of the work.
  • Each abstract will be read by a jury member that will attribute 0-10 points. Eight abstracts with the highest average number of points will be selected for oral presentation.
  • The number of points attributed for the abstract will count as 50 % for the final score

 

Abstract format:

 

The abstracts will be reduced for printing to allow printing of 4 abstracts per page.
Please, limit the TOTAL number of characters (Title + authors + affiliation + abstract text) to 2800 (including spaces).
Title, authors and affiliation field lenghts are limited to 255 characters each (including spaces).
If submitted on-line, no special characters nor superscript/subscript are allowed.
If figures or tables are included, the entire abstract should fit within a rectangle 15 x 19 cm (W x H) in a Word document written with the Times New Roman font, size 12.
The abstract not fulfilling the above formatting criteria will not be considered for the competition.
Participants in the Asher-Hess Prize should register for the meeting prior to abstract submission.


 

Oral presentation:

Duration: 10 min presentation + 5 min discussion
Criteria that will be taken in consideration by the jury:

  • Systematics of the presentation
  • Clarity of expression
  • Respect for time limits
  • Communication skills with the audience
  • Quality of slides / tables / graphs


The average mark based on all these criterias brings another 50 % to the final score.

 


Prizes:

According to the decision taken in 2004 at our business meeting, one prize will be awarded for the best poster, and another two for oral presentations. As you may see in the program, a 5 min poster presentation (including discussion) will be given for the full audience (Power point). The actual posters mounted next to the lunch tables can be visited during the lunch break. The 15 min. oral presentations ( including discussion) are scheduled for the afternoon, as in previous years. In the registration form you may indicate which format you prefer, poster or oral presentation. Due to organizational constraints, your presentation may be scheduled for a different format, but your wishes will be followed whenever possible.

 

 

1. Oral presentation - 1st Prize: Fr. 750.- plus Fr. 450.- for Travel grant (continuing education)


2. Oral presentation - 2nd Prize: Fr. 350.- plus Fr. 450.- for Travel grant (continuing education)


3. Poster presentation Prize : Fr. 550.- plus Fr. 450.- for Travel grant (continuing education)
